A 3-year-old boy presents with a 2-day dry cough that has worsened, with wheeze and shortness of breath today, triggered by a smoke exposure and worse in the mornings. There is a prior history of 3–4 self-limiting cough episodes. Working diagnosis is acute asthma exacerbation; bronchiolitis, croup, inhaled foreign body, pneumonia and viral-induced wheeze must be actively excluded. The station rewards structured paediatric assessment and a clear acute management plan.
